(October 21 – 12:10 ET) – Surrey Metro Savings is the first credit union to launch a new suite of credit cards developed through a consortium formed by VanCity, Canada’s largest credit union, and Mouvement des caisses Desjardins, Quebec’s largest financial co-operative.

The range of VISA cards – called Community VISA offers consumers and business operators added value options like gold card services, low interest rates and travel rewards through Canada 3000, the country’s largest leisure airline. These products answer an increasing demand for a competitive product tailor-made for credit union members.

Both Desjardins, with 1.4 million cardholders and 55,000 merchants, and
VanCity with its strong track record in Western Canada, are members of VISA
Canada. Desjardins and VanCity Community Card Services was formed in August
1998 through an agreement with Credit Union Central of British Columbia to
provide credit card services to credit unions across Canada.
