(January 12 11:00 ET) — Merrill Lynch says that it has appointed David Bowers as chief global investment strategist.
Bowers, 40, is currently Merrill’s chief European equity strategist. He takes over from Charles Clough Jr., who is retiring after 13 years with the firm. Bowers will be relocating to the U.S. from Britain in late February to lead Merrill’s team of equity investment strategists in advising institutional and individual clients on investing strategies all over the world.
“David’s intellectual strength, sound judgment and interpersonal skills have won the respect and allegiance of our European investing clients as well as our sales force,” said a statement by Rosemary Berkery and Andrew Melnick, directors of global securities research and economics. “We are confident that his skills will be enormously beneficial to our clients globally.”
Bowers will be replaced on the European brief by Plum Shipton and Philip Wolstencroft. Shipton is currently in charge of stock and sector strategy within the European equity strategy team. Wolstencroft is Merrill’s U.K. strategist.
