Calgary-based Mawer Investment Management Ltd. is opening an office in Singapore, which will allow the firm to further expand its research and trading activities, the firm announced on Thursday.

Mawer Investment Management Singapore Pte. Ltd. (Mawer Singapore), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mawer, received a capital markets license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the nation’s central bank and regulatory authority.

Paul Moroz, deputy chief investment officer at Mawer, and Peter Dmytruk, an equity trader with the firm, will transfer to the Singapore office, which will open this month. Ong (Apichet) Kiatworakun, an equity analyst at Mawer, will also transfer pending the receipt of an employment pass that allows foreign professionals to work in Singapore.

“Their relocation will provide enhanced research and trading opportunities due to closer proximity to Asian companies and a compatible time zone,” the announcement states. “All three individuals will continue to operate as part of an integrated global research team at Mawer.”

Mawer will remain lead investment manager for its mutual funds and other client accounts. It will retain Mawer Singapore as a subadvisor to help it in carrying out its duties.
