The Investment Dealers Association is finally changing the rules requiring reps to produce proof of passing their Canadian Securities Institute courses. The changes were initiated a couple of years ago after a rep was caught falsifying his educational records.
The changes to registration procedures apply to all applications submitted for registration after August 24. For all CSI courses completed after November 1999, the CSI’s original blue watermarked Notice of Course must be provided as proof of passing.
In addition, for courses passed prior to this date, a photocopy of the Notice of Course Completion or the Official Transcript is acceptable. However, the copies must be signed by the applicant, and signed/notarized by a Commissioner of Oaths or Notary Public, to attest that the photocopy is identical to the original.
For non-resident applications submitted to the IDA Prairie Regional Office, these documents must be sworn before a notary public or barrister or solicitor. As a reminder to members, replacement Notices of Course Completion can be obtained by contacting the CSI directly.
