(May 9 – 10:30 ET) – The Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators is establishing a Secretariat to help carry out its plan to lead the development and harmonization of insurance regulation and policy.

This new Secretariat will provide administrative, research, technical and project management support. It is expected to be up and running in June.

The CCIR says it will concentrate on harmonizing regulation, improving relationships with other regulators and improving consumer protection.

“Consumers are having to make more and more choices in insurance products and services in an increasingly complex environment. CCIR’s strategic plan and Secretariat are important steps in setting standards for the protection of consumers in the new millennium,” says CCIR chairman Winston Morris.
