(October 18) – Tempest Consulting has released a survey asking fund managers and corporate issuers to rate their favourite analysts.
Fund managers picked RBC Dominion Securities as their favourite research shop, followed by Scotia Capital and Merrill Lynch. The issuers preferred Merrill, followed by DS and Credit Suisse First Boston. Naturally the fund managers prefer objectivity, while the issuers like analysts that spin their stories best, so laurels from the issuers may be something of a backhanded compliment.
The money managers’ favourite bank analyst is Kevin Choquette of Scotia Capital, while the issuers prefer the coverage of Merrill’s Jamie Keating. Non-bank financial analysts do not appear on the list. Jeff Rubin of CIBC World Markets was named as top economist. DS’s Dan Chornous is the top portfolio strategist and Scotia’s Peter Gibson is the favoured quantitative analyst.
