Financial services are well represented on a list of Canada’s Best Workplaces in a special report released Tuesday.

Six financial services firms are ranked among the top 10 companies with more than 1,000 employees. TD Bank Financial Group placed third, Bank of Nova Scotia ranked fifth, followed by ATB Financial in sixth place.

Full service investment dealer Edward Jones, State Farm Insurance, and RBC Financial Group, ranked eighth, ninth and 10th.

The fifth annual list of the 75 “Best Workplaces in Canada” was compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute Canada.

Two-thirds of the survey is based on how randomly selected associates answer questions related to workplace culture and practices. The remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the firm, including an evaluation of human resources policies and procedures.

Organizations are scored in five basic areas: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.

TD Financial Group was the highest ranking financial services firm on the list of 75 companies, ranking 13th.
