(September 26 – 10:10 ET) – The Canadian Securities Institute is promoting its role in assisting Chinese regulators in establishing an effective regulatory regime for capital markets in China.
Funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, the CSI has twice this year instructed delegates from the China Securities Regulatory Commission with intensive investment education sessions. In July Chinese delegates came to learn about securities enforcement, compliance and surveillance. The purpose of the sessions was to help the CSRC gain a knowledge and understanding of the functions of Canadian capital markets and mutual fund management to enhance their own practices in Chinese capital markets.
The second round began on September 13, running for 10 days including speakers from the CSI, the Ontario Securities Commission, the B.C. Securities Commission, Fidelity Investments Canada Limited, the Mutual Fund Dealers Association, Sun Life Financial, CIBC Mellon, AGF, Investors Group and Power Financial Corp. Sessions were conducted in English with Chinese translation.
“CSI looks forward to future opportunities to customize training solutions for the Chinese market,” says Dr. Roberta Wilton, president of CSI. To continue the relationship, the CSI will be heading to Beijing in the fall on a training mission to share Canadian best practices with the enforcement department.
