CIBC today announced the launch of its wireless banking service.
CIBC customers can now check their account and credit card balances, transaction history, transfer funds and make bill payments using Web-enabled mobile phones, RIM wireless handhelds and other personal digital assistants as they become commercially available. CIBC wireless banking is available to customers subscribing to Bell Mobility, Rogers AT&T Wireless or Telus Mobility service.
“This is an exciting time to be launching our wireless service as manufacturers are developing mobile devices offering greatly improved Internet access and wireless carriers are introducing high speed networks that support these devices’ enhanced capabilities,” said Pattie Robb, senior vice president, CIBC retail markets. “The research from our pilot program indicates that there is demand among tech-savvy customers and the on-the-go workforce for wireless banking, and as connectivity and devices improve, we expect that demand to grow steadily.”
“With 1.5 million CIBC customers registered for online banking, we see wireless service as part of the ongoing evolution of Web-enabled self-service options that our customers will expect from their financial institution,” said Robb.
CIBC’s custom in-house wireless application is built on the ViaFone OneBridge Mobile Server, a mobile enterprise software platform for both voice and data. The software enables the bank to deliver — in real time — any financial service and business applications through any carrier to any mobile device in a way that is easy to manipulate, consistent across all devices and optimized for the features of each appliance today and in the future.
