Yvon Charest, president and CEO of Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc., was elected chairman of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association, Inc. for the year ahead at the association’s annual business meeting in Montreal on Monday.

“I am pleased and honoured to have the opportunity to work with my industry colleagues and to continue this association’s 112-year history of consensus-building and constructive dialogue with regulators and policymakers,” says Charest.

During his term in office, Charest will be working with a board of directors including newly elected chairman-elect Peter C. McCarthy, president and CEO of AIG Life Insurance Co. of Canada; two past chairmen, James A. Brierley, president of Munich Reinsurance Co., Canada branch (life) and Donald A. Stewart, CEO of Sun Life Financial Inc.; as well as the following directors:
– Richard Bell, CEO of SSQ, Life Insurance Company Inc.;
– Dominic D’Alessandro, president and CEO of Manulife Financial Corp.;
– Denis Devos, president and chief operating officer, Canada, of the Great-West Life Assurance Co., London Life Insurance Co., and the Canada Life Assurance Co.;
– Mario Georgiev, president of Optimum Reassurance Inc.;
– Dieter Kays, president and CEO of FaithLife Financial;
– Denis Losier, president and CEO of Assumption Mutual Life Insurance Co.;
