Canaccord Capital Inc. is beefing up its European energy team with the appointments of Geir Sagemo and Jim Joseph as senior oil and gas analysts, based in London.
Sagemo, 34, joins Canaccord from J.P.Morgan Securities, where he was a senior analyst and head of the emerging Europe and Latin America oil and gas equity research team. Sagemo’s research covered Russian oil companies, downstream central Europe and integrated oil companies in Latin America. Prior to joining J.P.Morgan in 2003, Sagemo covered oil and gas issuers at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein for 10 years.
Joseph, 52, joins from College Hill, a financial consulting firm, where he was head of the Natural Resources Team. Prior to this, he was a portfolio manager and senior equity analyst at Alecta Investment Management (1999-2004) managing oil and gas research, CIBC World Markets (Oil and gas Advisory) between 1997 and 1999, and led the Extel number one rated oil and gas team at James Capel (now HSBC) between 1983 and 1996.
Following these appointments in London, Canaccord will have one of the largest specialist research (13), equity sales (six) and advisory (16) teams dedicated to growth energy companies. These analyst appointments follow the previously announced addition of Nick Clayton to the global capital markets team as global co-head of energy (corporate finance), as well as the recent recruitment of David Porter to the London office’s advisory group.
Porter, 40, joins Canaccord from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, where he has advised numerous oil and gas companies as director of Natural Resources, Corporate Finance and Advisory, since he joined in 1992. Prior to this Porter worked at Andersen Consulting between 1990 and 1992.
“Geir Sagemo and Jim Joseph are exciting additions to our international energy team. They exemplify the in-depth industry knowledge and client-focused approach that has characterized Canaccord’s success in this sector,” commented Paul Reynolds, vice chair, head of Canaccord’s Global Capital Markets division.
Rick Grafton, managing director, global co-Head of energy, added, “Our Canadian energy team is looking forward to leveraging our global advantage in partnership with these new additions to the team in Europe to provide our clients with an unparalleled energy service offering.”
