(June 12 – 11:50 ET) – Jean-Claude Scraire, chairman of the board and CEO of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, today announced the location selected for the institution’s new Montreal office. A 600,000-square-foot building will be constructed in the heart of the international district. The building will house more than 1,200 people and is scheduled for occupancy in the fall of 2002.
The new building will gather together all the Caisse’s Montreal business units. The growth of assets under management, the addition of new expertise and new clients, and the hiring of new personnel have created the need for additional space and played a key role in the decision to build a new office.
“By combining all our operations under one roof, we’re laying the foundation for new co-operation and sharing of knowledge that will help us achieve our objective of maintaining our rank as one of the best fund managers in North America,” Mr. Scraire stated. “The various areas that the Caisse and its subsidiaries are involved in, such as real estate, private investments and publicly traded investments, are increasingly interrelated. Each unit has the potential to add value to the other management units, with the quality of its strategic information and its network of partners, suppliers, services and clients. Each business unit will thus benefit from the proximity.”
The international district already contains a high concentration of international organizations, including ICAO, IATA, the Convention Centre, the World Trade Centre, Montréal International and the Montréal Exchange.
