(February 20 – 10:45 ET) – BMO Nesbitt Burns announced today the hiring of James Moglia as executive managing director and head of its U.S. Debt Origination Group. Based in New York, Moglia will head a team of 11 people focused on high yield finance and private placements and will build the firm’s New York-based sponsor coverage and restructuring efforts.

“High yield finance, private placements and restructurings are important product components of our strategy to provide full-service debt capability to our client base, in good markets and bad,” said Tom Milroy, executive managing director, Investment and Corporate Banking, BMO Nesbitt Burns. “In addition, the expansion of our U.S. sponsor coverage activity is consistent with the significant equity capital raised by this client segment and the opportunities for private equity transactions in the next few years.”

In addition to Moglia, BMO Nesbitt Burns also announced the appointment today of William Schneider, as vice president, corporate and investment banking, Energy – U.S. Oil and Gas. Based in Houston, Schneider will be part of the firm’s North American energy team that has offices in Houston, Calgary, New York and Toronto. Schneider will focus on expanding the firm’s merger and acquisition franchise in this sector.

“We view these sectors as large, profitable and significantly important to our North American strategy,” said Milroy. “The strengthening of our U.S. debt business will enhance our cross border capabilities and allow us to become a preferred North American partner for our clients.

Moglia has over 16 years of extensive experience in the leverage finance area. He started his career as a high yield and leveraged buyout specialist with Drexel Burnham Lambert in the firm’s New York corporate finance department and Beverly Hills-based high yield sales and trading group. Moglia was a managing director and business head at both Kidder, Peabody and PaineWebber, where he built high yield, restructuring and leverage buyout departments. He has been at CIBC World Markets since 1995 as a managing director, completing leveraged finance transactions for companies domiciled both in the U.S. and Canada. Moglia is a graduate of Columbia College, Columbia University and the Wharton Graduate School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.

Schneider has over 17 years of experience in the energy industry, including investment banking, corporate finance and business development. He has advised clients on a number of complex transactions including the recent formation of Pure Resources through the merger of Titan Exploration and a subsidiary of Unocal Corporation. Prior to joining BMO Nesbitt Burns, Schneider held positions with Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette, Smith Barney and Unocal. He holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA.
