(September 13 – 11:30 ET) – Bank of Montreal is promoting of Sherry Cooper to executive vice president and global economic strategist, Bank of Montreal Group of Companies. The banks says the appointment expands upon her responsibilities as chief economist, BMO Nesbitt Burns.

“In her new role, Dr. Cooper will provide advice to a variety of audiences on major economic issues, trends and key topics relating to the North American and global financial markets,” said Tony Comper, charmand and CEO of BMO. “She will contribute to brand marketing and awareness in the U.S. by building a sustainable profile for the bank’s private client group, investment banking group and Harris brands,” he added.

Cooper will retain existing responsibilities for investment strategy, capital markets, capital market clients and the market risk committee within the investment banking group.

BMO says Tim O’Neill continues as chief economist of the Bank of Montreal with overall responsibilities for macro economic analysis for Canada and the U.S., providing advice on government affairs and Canadian and American public policy issues.

Before joining BMO in 1994, Cooper was vice chairman and chief economist with Burns Fry Ltd. She has provided senior level research and background work for the U.S. Federal Reserve Board and served as special assistant to the Chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Board.
