For the 13th consecutive year, Moncton, N.B.-based Assumption Life has received an A- (Excellent) rating from the independent rating company A.M. Best.

“Despite market volatility and falling interest rates in 2011, Assumption Life has met its challenges and seen positive financial results that achieved its objectives. Our financial stability and our commitment to carrying out our corporate strategies, while remaining able to adapt quickly and easily to the changes and events that are hitting not just our industry but the economy in general, are essential factors behind A.M. Best’s decision to rate us A- (Excellent),” according to Robert Moreau, vice-president and CFO of Assumption Life.

Moreau explained that the rating, “tells our clients and brokers that we are a trustworthy company, in good financial health, with an excellent ability to meet our obligations to policyholders.” In 2011, Assumption Life’s solvency ratio was 251%, well above the minimum 150% required by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.

Moreau added, “In 2011, Assumption Life had record life insurance sales of $10.3 million. Our innovative and quick-issue products along with our streamlined online services go a long way toward explaining the marked increase in sales.”

“Our biggest priority is to make sure that we’re easy to do business with, not only for our 5,000 brokers but for all our clients,” Moreau concluded.

Assumption Life had net income of $4.7 million in fiscal 2012, along with record financial product sales of $69.9 million. Policyholders’ equity totaled $96 million. Assets under management amounted to $1.2 billion. Finally, group insurance sales reached $4.9 million.
