Following the closure this morning of the three New York City area airports to air traffic due to an incident involving an American Airlines aircraft, Air Canada flights to and from LaGuardia, Newark and JFK have been cancelled or postponed until at least 15:00 ET today. With the exception of flights to and from New York City, Air Canada is operating a normal schedule to all other destinations.

Air Canada is monitoring the situation closely and expects to resume flights to and from the three New York City airports once U.S. Air Traffic Control opens the city’s airports and New York City ground transportation
returns to normal.

Passengers on affected flights to and from New York City should contact their travel agent or Air Canada reservations at 1-888-247-2262 for rebooking. To facilitate re-accommodation on later flights for passengers affected by schedule changes to and from New York City, Air Canada is waiving change fees on discounted tickets held by those passengers. Passengers should consult the Air Canada website for flight status information before presenting themselves at the airport.

In a message this morning from Air Canada President and CEO, Robert Milton, to American Airlines’ Chairman and CEO, Don Carty, Air Canada has offered its condolences and support to the friends and families of American Airlines’ passengers and crew who were victims of this incident.
