Members of the Toronto police fraud squad today arrested a man in relation to a multi-million-dollar investment fraud investigation.
Gordon Lewis, 70, of Toronto was charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000.
Police allege that Lewis was retained to act as the investment fund manager of both the Promitterre S&P 500 Ltd. and Rochester Financial Ltd. funds; that he purported to be conducting large financial investments on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, on behalf of over 100 individual investors; and, that he actively concealed millions of dollars in trading losses and stole investors’ capital and used it to finance his personal lifestyle.
They also claim that several of the investors lost their life savings.
Police say these offences took place from 2002 to 2006.
These allegations have not been proven in court. Lewis was scheduled to appear in court today.
Investigating officers are requesting the public’s assistance in obtaining any information that relates to the business activities of Lewis.
