A Quebec court has fined a women $1,000 for failing to appear before the Quebec Securities Commission.
The QSC reports that Johanne Goyette was ordered to pay the fine plus costs for failing to appear before an investigator of the commission. Goyette had been summoned to testify in connection with an investigation.
Justice Jean-Georges Laliberté of the Court of Qubec, Criminal and Penal Division, found her guilty of one count of failing to comply with the Securities Act.
The QSC had initiated proceedings against Goyette on January 9.
Under the Act, QSC investigators have the power to compel individuals to testify and provide certain documents. When those persons refuse to cooperate in investigations, penal proceedings may be initiated against them.
