The B.C. Securities Commission has been blocked from obtaining some documents in its investigation into the bankruptcy of Vantage Securities Inc.

The BCSC lost a motion petitioning the B.C. Supreme Court to require law firm McCullough O’Connor Irwin to turn over some of the documents they have relating to Vantage’s bankruptcy.

McCullough O’Connor Irwin acted for the company and some of its directors prior to the bankruptcy and was in possession of documents that the BCSC wanted to get its hands on. The law firm argued that the documents are protected by solicitor-client privilege.

The judge ruled in the law firmÕs favour and ordered the BCSC to pay for the costs of the motion.
