The New Brunswick Securities Commission is stepping up its efforts to enhance capital formation in that province. The commission announced that it will hold a summit to address the issue later this fall.
The NBSC will host the Fullsail Summit 2006 on Nov. 19-21 in Moncton, as part of its Capital Market Development initiative. The summit aims to inspire delegates to take action to help grow New Brunswick’s capital markets. Delegates will include entrepreneurs, investors, accountants, financial services, management consultants, economic development agencies, universities and colleges, corporate executives, government, media, lawyers, students, small and medium business owners.
“The Fullsail Summit will educate and enlighten attendees on issues and roadblocks, and potential solutions for capital market growth,” said Donne Smith, chair and CEO of the NBSC. “The conference will also highlight some New Brunswick success stories relevant to creating vibrant capital markets. Delegates will be encouraged to champion solutions and implement change.”
The NBSC has a legislated mandate to foster New Brunswick’s capital markets. Research into the state of the capital markets began in last year. The commission discovered which initiatives worked or not in various jurisdictions around the world. It then held a series of roundtable dialogues throughout the province, to help better understand the challenges to developing effective capital markets in the province.
The commission is preparing a report on capital market development based on the roundtable findings. The report will identify five areas of development: Entrepreneur Education, Entrepreneur Networks, Business Development Financial Incentives, Angel Investor Activity, and Capital Raising Options.
“For this initiative to be truly successful every capital markets stakeholder needs to be involved. Only through a holistic strategy will we achieve success,” Smith said.
