The Commission des valeurs mobilières du Québec has appointed Stéphane Garon to the position of Director of Legal Services.

As part of his new functions, Garon will manage the group of lawyers working in this division whose role is to represent the CVMQ at legal proceedings and to advise other divisions on how to fulfil their mandates.

“It’s an incredible challenge to work within a large-scale organization like the CVMQ,” declared Garon. “Legal services are at the heart of this organization and I hope to contribute, along with all the other divisions, towards enforcing the Act and Regulation in a vigorous and thorough manner in order to protect investors.”

Garon holds a Bachelor’s degree in law and a Bachelor’s degree in industrial relations from the Université Laval. He has been a member of the “Barreau du Québec” since 1990. Backed by his years of experience as a lawyer, he occupied the position of vice president of GPC International where he was in charge of government relations for Quebec. Garon also practised as a commercial litigation lawyer for three well-known law firms and helped develop and implement restructuring strategies for companies.
