Major market changes such as the Toronto Stock Exchange takeover of the Canadian Venture Exchange will be among the issues tackled at Capital Ideas, a one-day conference hosted by the British Columbia Securities Commission. The conference opens tomorrow in Vancouver.

Close to 150 investment dealers, portfolio managers, mutual fund dealers, compliance officers, securities lawyers, and company directors and executives will be on hand to exchange views and discuss regulatory changes with the Commission during the day.

TSE president and CEO Barbara Stymiest headlines a list of speakers that also include: Ken Shields, president of Raymond James Ltd.; Pacific Rim Mining Corp. president Catherine McLeod-Seltzer; and Harry Jaako, CEO of Discovery Capital Corp.

Conference panelists and attendees will discuss issues and trends such as: the future of capital markets in B.C.; the BCSC’s new approach to regulation; and the regulator’s role in making markets fair and efficient.
