The sentencing of ex-Royal Bank of Canada investment banker Andrew Rankin, convicted in July of making illegal stock tips, has had his sentencing postponed until Oct. 19.
Rankin was to have been sentenced today, but proceedings were adjourned by Ontario Court Judge Ramez Khawly.
Rankin was convicted in July of 10 counts of tipping a childhood friend about 10 corporate deals that earned the friend millions in capital gains. Rankin faces up to two years in jail, as well as fines of up to $1-million per count. He had been charged with leaking information to Daniel Duic from 1999 to 2001 about corporate secrets involving clients of his former employer, RBC Dominion Securities Inc.
Rankin was acquitted of 10 related charges of illegal insider trading.
