(June 27 – 10:10 ET) – Bank of Montreal today began a new campaign to promote its Veev wireless banking, investment and lifestyle service. In addition to print and radio advertising, the bank is providing mobile phones to 300 branch employees across the country, who will be able to give demonstrations and answer questions.

In a letter to employees, Ron Rogers, vice chairman, Bank of Montreal, emphasized the bank’s leadership role in the wireless field. “Bank of Montreal has played a pioneering role in developing wireless financial services in North America,” he said. “Now, we are playing a pioneering role in marketing them.”

Rogers pointed to a recent study showing wireless telephone access is expected to pass the 50% mark in Canada by 2001.

Veev, the first wireless financial services package in North America, was launched by Bank of Montreal in May 1999 in conjunction with Toronto-based software company 724 Solutions. Veev is available in both English and French through Bell Mobility in Ontario and Quebec and through TELUS in Alberta and British Columbia. It can be accessed using browser-enabled digital PCS phones and other portable Internet access devices. Veev is currently available free of charge to Bell Mobility and TELUS customers with dot-com-enabled wireless phones.
