(September 13 – 12:30 ET) – The
Commission des valeurs mobilieres
du Quebec (CVMQ) today notified
group savings, investment contract
and scholarship plan
representatives that from tomorrow
onwards all new applications for
registration will be forwarded to
the Bureau des services financiers
(BSF) for registration.
Requests to transfer permits
received by the CVMQ after Sept.
20 will also be forwarded to the
newly created BSF. As of Oct. 1,
the BSF will be responsible for
all requests for the registration
of representatives working for the
firms covered by a new act that
deals with the distribution of
financial products and
services.
On Oct. 1, the BSF,
which was created to ensure protection of
the public, replaces the Conseil
des assurances de personnes and
Conseil des assurances de dommages,
and also takes over the
responsibility of the Inspector
General of Financial Institutions
in supervising multi-sector firms
and financial planners.
