(April 3 – 10:50 ET) – Canadians will have until midnight on May 1 to file their 1999 income tax returns, since April 30 falls on a Sunday, says the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency.

Many CCRA offices will accept income tax returns until midnight on May 1, as will numerous post offices Tax returns received or postmarked by midnight are considered to be filed on time.

The CCRA says it has already received 7.6 million returns, including 3.0 million that were filed electronically. Of these, 5.3 million have been processed, generating refunds totaling $4.1 billion.
