(April 23 – 10:00 ET) – The Quebec Securities Commission is kicking off the fourth annual National Investor Education Week with a message to investors to get informed.
“It’s a known fact that a well-informed investor is more likely to make sound decisions and avoid falling victim to fraud,” says Carmen Crépin, chair of the QSC. “There is an abundance of information related to investing; however, investors must make the effort to become aware of this information and to understand it.”
She encourages investors to be skeptical and well informed. “We can’t say it enough: be wary of people promising huge profits and, to avoid any unpleasant surprises, be sure to become informed instead of investing with your eyes shut. Becoming informed is the best way to protect yourself from fraud.”
The QSC has taken several initiatives to inform investors, including publishing brochures, participating in fairs and organizing National Investor Education Week. The QSC’s Web site also provides investors with access to practical information, as does SEDAR’s Web site.
