(April 19 – 10:30 ET) – The Quebec Securities Commission will be taking part various activities supporting National Investor Education Week. From April 23 to 27, 2001, several initiatives, including seminars, are scheduled to inform investors and make them aware of financial markets and investing.

In collaboration with the Canadian Securities Institute and the Montreal Exchange Inc., the QSC is organizing seminars in five Quebec cities: Trois-Rivières, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Longueuil and Laval. Aimed at intermediate investors, the theme of the seminars will be Winning Strategies in a Volatile Market. Investors can register for these seminars free of charge by calling 1-866-322-2424.

A four-week television campaign is now underway on French-language music channel Musique Plus. It is aimed at making young people aware of the importance of saving and investing. Viewers are invited to watch a music video and answer a question in order to participate in a contest. A $2,500 scholarship will be given to the winner.

The QSC is also taking advantage of National Investor Education Week to publish an article in French in “Le Bel Age” magazine to provide information to the elderly about the Internet and investing. The article explains that all information found on the Internet is not always true or accurate.

The QSC will also publish a series of four press releases during the week filled with advice for investors. Finally, a series of articles has been written on saving and investing and is aimed at community newspapers.

“It is important to emphasize that the QSC’s commitment to investor education is by no means seasonal. Throughout the year, the Commission engages in many initiatives to ensure that people are better prepared and informed when the time comes to make investment decisions,” stated Carmen Crépin, chair of the QSC.
