Dale Richmond, president and CEO of Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, one of Canada’s largest pension plans, announced his planned retirement by year-end on Wednesday.

Richmond served as president and CEO for 10 years. Under his leadership, OMERS assets grew from $15.8 billion to $30 billion and membership has grown from 248,000 to 328,000.

Among his accomplishments are the increased emphasis on timely, high-quality service to members, implementation of industry-leading technology systems, the diversification of the OMERS Fund into private equity, real return bonds and infrastructure investments and the development of proxy voting guidelines that set higher standards for corporate governance in Canada.

“We are extremely grateful to Dale for his leadership and commitment to the plan over the past 10 years,” said Bill Rayburn, chair, OMERS board.

Prior to joining OMERS, Richmond served as the chief administrative officer for the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto for eight years and also held various positions with the Province of Nova Scotia, City of Calgary and the Region of Sudbury.
