(April 10 – 10:00 ET) – As part of the kickoff to Investor Education Week the Investor Learning Centre is launching a pilot program for high school students.

The program has been produced by the Investment Dealers Association’s educational arm, the Canadian Securities Institute, and distributed by the ILC.

The draft materials will be rewritten and reviewed in response to the pilot program reaction. The final package will be distributed free to grade 11 and 12 students in select cities across the country during the 2000-2001 school year. The first draft is a five-hour modular program that attempts to teach students about the working of capital markets and the basics of investing.

“We would like to see basic investment education as something that all high school students experience before graduation,” says ILC vice president Ann Clarkson. “In the future, all Canadians will have to take a more active role in their personal finances in order to have the means to buy a home, pay for their children’s education, or live comfortably in retirement.”
