The Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors conference in Toronto next week will present a panel discussion on how the events of September 11 will impact the financial services industry.

The panel will include experts in the areas of insurance, finance, law enforcement, and terrorism including: Norman Inkster, president of KPMG Investigation and Security Inc. and a former RCMP Commissioner recently appointed by Ontario premier Mike Harris to an Ontario task force on terrorism; Reid Morden, chair of KPMG Corporate Intelligence Inc. and a former director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service; Chris Mathers, president of KPMG Corporate Intelligence Inc.; and Dick Freeborough, national industry director, KPMG Insurance Industry Practice.

In addition to the human loss, current estimates predict that the terrorist acts will result in over US$73 billion in insurance claims. Members of CAIFA provide both insurance and financial planning advice to over 9 million Canadians and will need to be kept informed of the impact to the financial services sector.

The “September 11 Panel” is part of CAIFA’s 2001 National Conference taking place in Toronto, October 20 to 23.
