(June 5 – 11:55 ET) – Catherine Hurlburt has been appointed chairwoman of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners for a one-year term. Hurlburt has held senior positions on the CAFP’s various steering committees on a local and national level. Hurlburt has served on the CAFP national board of directors since 1996.
“One of my goals as chairwoman of CAFP is a consumer protection initiative that raises the awareness of the difference between financial planning and financial planning product sales,” states Hurlburt. She adds, “In light of recent proposed regulation, I strongly believe that Canadians need to be aware of financial planners who provide quality financial advice based on a six-step process and those financial planners who just sell products.” “The CAFP represents a significant number of financial planners and I believe it is our responsibility to face the challenges of defining financial planning on behalf of consumers,” she states.
Hurlburt is a partner and a senior planner with IFC Planning Group Inc. Born and raised in Toronto, Hurlburt attended Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario where she earned her honours bachelor of business administration degree. Hurlburt has achieved the designations of Certified Financial Planner, Registered Financial Planner and Chartered Life Underwriter.
Regarded as an expert on financial planning practices, Hurlburt spent five years teaching financial management at the British Colombia Institute of Technology.
For the benefit of consumer protection, Hurlburt advocates the requirements of CAFP Membership as the highest standard of excellence and is committed to maintaining the highest standards for Canadian financial planners and to increasing consumer awareness of the value of a professional financial plan.
