(October 12 – 16:15 ET) –
Current markets require an active
trading strategy, recommends
Salomon Smith Barney
analyst, Marshall Acuff Jr.
Acuff says active money
management is favoured over
indexation, in choppy markets.
Specific stock-picking is the
way to go, he adds. He sees
viable opportunities on both a
growth and a value basis,
suggesting that there are values
among beaten-down large cap
stocks, and growth plays in the
mid-cap range, particularly for
mid to late cycle stocks.
Among value stocks, he
recommends looking for large caps
that have been out of favour,
particularly those that have
transformed themselves in recent
months. In the U.S. market he
points to MCI WorldCom, Honeywell,
Raytheon, and Halliburton
as possible value plays.
