(September 29 – 14:30 ET) –
Foreign tourism spending in Canada
reached $4.1 billion in the
second quarter, a 10.7% increase
from a year earlier, Statistics
Canada reported today.
“The growth in tourism revenues
from our international markets
surpassed the rise in the number
of trips from the same markets,”
said Terry Francis, executive
vice president, Canadian Tourism
Commission. “This is good news for
the industry because it shows our
marketing targeted at high-yield
travelers is paying off.”
Total tourism spending reached
$12.2 billion in the quarter, a
5.5% increase, with travel by
Canadians accounting for $8.1
billion, up 3.5%.
