Toronto stocks got slight boost from financial and technology companies Thursday in a lightly traded session, while American markets were closed for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. The S&P/TSX index finished up 25.12 points at 6,629.37, its highest level in three-month.
The information technology sector finished the day up 1.6%. while the financial index rose nearly 1%.
Nortel Networks advanced 7¢ to $3.02, its best close since early June.
TD Bank gained 96¢ to $33.65 a day after reporting an annual loss. Royal Bank climbed 56¢ to $59.20.
The TSX Venture Exchange gained 9.97 points to 951.09.
American stock markets reopen Friday for a shortened session that ends at 13:00 ET.
The Canadian dollar dipped 0.01¢ to US63.57¢.
Statistics Canada reported Thursday that corporate profits rose 2.6% in the third quarter from the April-June period. However, the pace of growth slowed, from 9.2% and 13% in the first two quarters of 2002.
