(March 10 – 9:10 ET) – Canada’s unemployment rate was unchanged in February at 6.8%, Statistics Canada reported today. Despite healthy job growth, an equal number of people came back into the work force.
The federal agency said a 35,700 gain in jobs was neatly offset by a return of 37,700 people to the labour force in February, leaving the jobless rate unchanged — as economists had predicted.
In the month, 39,500 full-time jobs were created, while part-time employment fell by 3,800. The return of workers to the labour force boosted the participation rate to 65.8%, up from 65.7% in January.
