Montreal-based National Bank of Canada’s private banking arm has entered into Western Canada with the opening of Private Banking 1859’s first branch in Calgary on Wednesday.

This marks the first step of the firm’s private banking expansion into Western Canada, notably British Columbia and Alberta, over the next few years, according to a National Bank statement released on Thursday.

“Private Banking 1859 is taking private management into a new era, with unequalled delivery of innovative, effective services and solutions that respect the needs expressed, executed in exemplary fashion by a team dedicated solely to our clients’ success,” says Meghan Meger, president of Private Banking 1859 for Western Canada, in the statement.

“Clients will enjoy exceptional accessibility and response time, and even more comprehensive, intuitive and customized solutions,” she adds.

The firm also announced that its private banking arm has undergone some re-branding, which includes a name change to Private Banking 1859 from Private Wealth 1859.

The new name, which has been tweaked slightly, is meant to emphasize the diversity of services offered to clients looking for personalized wealth management but retains its numerical element, “1859,” which honours the year that National Bank was founded.
