Echelon, BLG team up to create “capital pool company”

Toronto-based Invesco Canada Ltd.’s new platform-traded funds (PTFs) are now available for trading on Aequitas PTF Connect.

The new trading platform allows dealers to trade and settle mutual funds like exchange-traded funds. Following successful live testing, Invesco’s PTFs can now be bought and sold through the service.

“With this announcement we celebrate another important milestone in our efforts to meet the needs of Canada’s capital markets. PTFs are a real game changer for the Canadian mutual fund industry, providing an agile solution to adapt to industry trends,” says Karl Ottywill, chief operating officer at Aequitas Technology Services Inc. in a statement announcing the launch.

Aequitas indicates that, along with Invesco, it’s adding fund companies and dealers to the platform, including a number of carrying brokers.

Transacting on Aequitas PTF Connect is free to dealers and is available to both discretionary and non-discretionary investment advisors.

The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) is also preparing to launch its own mutual fund trading platform, TSX NAVex, next month. It began testing in April and is expected to begin trading in June.
