The Financial Women’s Association (FWA) in New York has named Colleen Campbell, vice chairwoman with Toronto-based Bank of Montreal’s (BMO) capital markets arm, as “private sector woman of the year” for her efforts at increasing diversity and inclusion within her firm.
Campbell joined BMO Capital Markets in 1997 and spent 15 years focusing on debt capital markets, ultimately landing in the role of global head in that area. She was appointed vice chairwoman in 2012 and is co-chairwoman of BMO Capital Markets’ diversity and inclusion steering committee.
“The women selected for this award represent the hopes and dreams of all of the members of the FWA,” says Katrin Dambrot, president of the FWA, in a statement released on Monday. “The winners are proof that the glass ceiling is crackable and the C-suite is achievable.”
Campbell will receive her award on Tuesday at the FWA’s 60th anniversary gala dinner in New York.
“The FWA is an outstanding organization that fosters leadership and the success of women across the financial community,” says Campbell in a statement. “Past winners are pioneers in their field and provide hope for future generations of women. I am honored to be among them.”
Eight women working on Wall Street in New York founded the FWA in 1956. The association now boasts more than 1,000 members and honours women in the private and public sectors for their achievements, leadership and professionalism.
