ASC orders former broker to pay more than $500,000 for violating securities laws

Toronto-based Echelon Wealth Partners Inc. has entered into an exclusive partnership with Calgary-based portfolio manager Terry Shaunessy to provide its wealth-management clients with access to Shaunessy Investment Counsel Inc.’s tactical, globally balanced, diversified and custom exchange-traded fund (ETF) portfolio platform.

Shaunessy Investment Counsel is a boutique investment management firm catering to ultra-high net-worth family offices and trusts with minimum mandates of $3 million. The firm specializes in diversified, balanced, high-quality, actively managed ETF portfolios that preserve the purchasing power of a client’s funds, achieve long-term growth and address interest rate, credit, sector, geographic and currency risk.

Initially, Echelon is offering clients Shaunessy Investment Counsel’s proprietary Shaunessy Institutional Global Balanced Composite for investment accounts of $50,000 and greater.

“As an independent wealth-management company, Echelon has the ability to offer its clients unique products unavailable elsewhere,” says David Cusson, Echelon’s CEO, in a statement. “We pride ourselves on being client-first, and this exclusive agreement with Shaunessy Investment Counsel is an example of how we can source the best possible investment opportunities for our clients. Terry Shaunessy has an outstanding reputation and we are proud to be associated with his firm.”

Shaunessy has been a senior institutional research manager and institutional portfolio manager for more than 30 years, holding executive senior positions with HSBC Asset Management, Gordon Capital, Gryphon Investment Counsel and Merrill Lynch.

“We are very pleased to partner with Echelon and to share with their wealth=management clients our highly successful custom investment management process which has, up to now, been available only to ultra-high net-worth clients,” says Shaunessy, portfolio manager and president of Shaunessy Investment Counsel, in a statement.
