On Wednesday, Statistic Canada reports on international merchandise trade for December. Economists expect a surplus of $800 million.

On Tuesday, The U.S. Department of Commerce reports on wholesale inventories for December. Economists expect a drop of 0.7%.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury Department releases its monthly budget statement for January. Economists expect a deficit of US$75 billion.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Commerce Department reports on the trade balance for December. A deficit of US$35.9 billion is forecast.

On Thursday, U.S. Commerce reports advance retail sales for January. Economists expect a drop of 0.7%.

Separately, Commerce reports on business inventories for December. A decline of 0.6% is forecast.

The U.S. Department of Labour reports on initial jobless claims for the week ended Feb. 7. Economists forecast 610,000 claims.

On Friday, the University of Michigan issues its preliminary index of consumer sentiment in February. Economists expect a reading of 61.3.

On Wednesday, ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. reports third-quarter results.

On Thursday, Canaccord Capital Inc. reports its third-quarter results.

Manulife Financial Corp. reports fourth-quarter results as does Great-West Lifeco and Sun Life Financial.
