(August 1 – 17:30 ET) – The Mutual Fund Dealers Association has finished its cross-country roadshow, but interested dealers can still see it on the Web.

The MFDA webcast features chief operating officer Larry Waite in a 18-minute presentation starting with the background of the MFDA, and proceeding to a review of the associations major rules.

After laying out the basics Waite encourages dealers to get involved by getting a copy of the rules from the MFDA or the securities commissions, examining it closely and providing comments to the regulators. Waite says that the MFDA and regulators want the frontline perspective on whether the rules are proposed are practical and workable.

He recommends that dealers provide comments with as much detail as possible, and that they offer alternative solutions on areas that won’t work. He also suggests that dealers talk to their colleagues to ensure that they are heard too.

As for the roadshows themselves, Waite says they generally went well, although he is still running into opposition from dually-licensed reps who are “extremely concerned about the changes to their individual corporations”, and he says, “a number of them still don’t think they should be supervised by their dealer”.
