(February 8 – 11:00 ET) – There are very few female corporate officers in Canada, according to a new survey by Catalyst Research. The survey confirms research published in the latest issue of Investment Executive.
Catalyst found women hold just 12% of corporate officer positions in Canada in its first Census of Women Corporate Officers of Canada. IE’s latest special on Women in Financial Services found less than 5% of the named executive officers at publicly traded Canadian financial firms are women. The big exception is Versus Technologies Inc. where three of the top five executives are women.
IE found that while women may have made progress in the industry they have yet to crack the top tier of executives. Catalyst found that almost half of Canada’s largest companies have no women officers. Twenty-five percent have one woman and twenty-five percent have more than one.
It also found that Canadian women are poorly represented in line positions, which it defines as, “those jobs with profit-and-loss responsibilities that are key to executive advancement”. Women were only 6.4% of all line officers. They also only hold 3.4% of “clout” titles (including chair, CEO, vice chair, president, COO, SEVP, and EVP).
