Thomson Financial today announced the appointment of David Toyne as president of Thomson Financial Canada. Toyne joins Thomson Financial from State Street Trust, where he served as president and CEO for Canada.
Toyne will report to Lou Eccleston, president, global sales, marketing and services, Thomson Financial.
In his new role, Toyne will drive the planning, strategies, and programs for developing and selling best-in-class financial information and solutions to Thomson Financial’s Canadian clients.

At State Street Trust Company, Toyne was responsible for overall business strategy and execution in the Canadian market. Under Toyne’s management, State Street achieved industry leadership in the asset servicing business. Toyne oversaw the growth of the State Street business from 20 to 120 clients (including six of the seven largest Canadian pension plans) with total assets rising from $20 billion in 1992 to $500 billion in 2004.
Prior to joining State Street in 1992, Toyne spent seven years as director of international business development at Royal Trust. He is a graduate of Queen’s University where he received his Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree, a fellow at the Institute of Canadian Bankers as well as a member of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada, The Association of Canadian Pension Management and Canadian Pensions and Benefits Institute. Toyne is also a member of the board of directors of the Canadian Capital Markets Association
