Rowland Kelly was appointed interim president and CEO of Credit Union Central of British Columbia, effective May 1.

Kelly succeeds Wayne Nygren, who is retiring this month, as announced earlier. He is currently Central’s vice-president, finance and chief financial officer.

“A national executive search is currently under way to recruit a permanent successor to Wayne Nygren, who served the credit union system in this position for more than 20 years,” says Daniel A. Burns, chairman of CUBC’s board of directors. “The board is committed to devoting all the time and effort necessary to making the right selection. [But] in the meantime, we are confident that Central’s executive team will manage the organization effectively, under Rowland Kelly’s leadership.”

Kelly was appointed vice-president, finance and chief financial officer in January 1998, after holding the position of director, treasury and lending services since 1988. He had earlier served in investment management positions with the Bank of British Columbia and Vancouver City Savings Credit Union.

He graduated from Simon Fraser University with a degree in economics and commerce and holds the designation of certified general accountant.
