(March 14 – 10:35 ET) – The B.C. Securities Commission is seeking a trading ban and
other penalties against a broker, Richard Charles Harris III, and his mother, Ana Victoria Jimenez, on allegations that they misled a commission hearing panel.
The BCSC says the pair misled the commission at a hearing when they asked the commission to release some frozen accounts on compassionate grounds so that she could close a deal for a home in the Cayman Islands. They told the commission they’d lose a US$75,000 deposit on the US$885,000 home if they didn’t get access to the funds. The BCSC denied the request.
It says that in 1998 Harris admitted to commission staff and the RCMP that these statements were untrue. It maintains that their conduct is contrary to the public interest and that both Harris and Jiminez should be banned from trading, banned from acting as directors or officers of any issuer and from investor relations activities. It is also seeking penalties and costs. The hearing is scheduled for April 20.
