Fund dealers be warned. There’s a new cop on the beat. The Mutual Fund Dealers Association has hired its first director of enforcement, Stephanie McManus. McManus is currently enforcement counsel for the IDA in Calgary.
She will take up her post at the MFDA on May 13, where she will be responsible for building and leading the enforcement department. Until then all complaints and investigations are still being handled by the provincial securities commissions.
MFDA chief operating officer Larry Waite says that he expects the organization to start investigating complaints and to start its first round of compliance reviews in the fall.
McManus was called to the bar in 1987 and is licensed to practice law in both Alberta and Ontario. She will be the first woman to head an SRO enforcement division in Canada.
