Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • James Virgo has been appointed senior vice-president and chief investment officer at Wellington-Altus Private Wealth. He was previously co-CIO and head of multi-asset income solutions and advisor solutions, and originally joined the firm as senior VP and lead portfolio manager in 2022. Virgo has more than 25 years of industry experience, including senior roles at CI Financial-Assante Wealth Management, Mercer and MD Private Investment Counsel. Anthony Pantioras has been named senior vice-president, corporate development, eastern region. He joined the firm as VP of corporate development in 2020 from Russell Investments, where he spent 12 years, including as director of national accounts and business development. And Mark Breakspear has joined Wellington-Altus Private Wealth as regional manager for Alberta. Breakspear was previously head, capital markets and investor relations at Travelers Capital Corp., has two decades of industry experience, including as a financial planner and later division director with BMO Financial Group.
  • Greg Taylor has joined PenderFund as chief investment officer. Taylor has more than 25 years of experience as a portfolio manager, and most recently spent more than seven years with Purpose Investments as CIO and portfolio manager.
  • Alice Ambroise has been appointed director of advisor and client experience at Fidelity Wealth. Ambroise joins the firm from CI Global Asset Management, where she was VP and head of practice management for four years, and most recently served as VP and head of CI advisor consulting. She held previous sales roles with Franklin Templeton Investments, including as VP of regional sales, and with Morningstar.
  • Angela Shim has been appointed head of product strategy and development with Capital Group Canada. Shim brings both retail and institutional management experience, most recently with Guardian Capital Group Ltd., where she was VP of corporate initiatives and investment management for more than a decade. She’s also held senior product and investment management roles with Sun Life Global Investments Canada and Mackenzie Investments. Mike Tuira has been named vice-president, institutional.
