The former vice chairman of Enron Corp. was found dead Friday, the victim of an apparent suicide, police in Sugarland, Texas, said.
John Baxter was found dead at early Friday morning. According to police, Baxter’s body was in a car parked between medians. A suicide note was found at the scene, but its contents have not been disclosed.
The collapse of Enron has resulted in the biggest bankruptcy filing in United States history. Enron and its accounting firm, Andersen LLP, are under congressional investigation, with accusations of mishandling of funds and shredding of crucial documents.
Baxter resigned in May of last year. At the time he was 42 years old.
Enron said in a statement that: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our friend and colleague Cliff Baxter. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
