Federal finance miniser Jim Flaherty announced today three appointments to the board of directors of the Bank of Canada.
Douglas Emsley, Jock Finlayson and David Laidley take their positions on the board effective immediately.
Emsley is a senior executive with 25 years of business experience in the energy, security and agricultural sectors. He is chairman and president of the Agriculture Development Corporation, a farmland ownership and management company. He is also chairman and CEO of Security Resource Group Inc., a private investigation and security company, and [resident and Founder of SabreWest Oil & Gas Ltd. Previously, he served as Assistant Principal Secretary to the Premier of Saskatchewan and Chief of Staff to the Saskatchewan Minister of Energy and Mines.
Finlayson is executive vp of policy at the Business Council of British Columbia, with 28 years of experience in executive, policy and research roles. From 1990 to 1994, he served as vice president of research at the Canadian Council of Chief Executives in Ottawa.
Laidley is chairman emeritus of Deloitte & Touche LLP (Canada), with 40 years of experience as a tax practitioner and advisor. A chartered accountant, he has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning 40 years with Canada’s largest professional services firm, with specialization in its tax and audit practices, culminating in his election as Chairman in 2000, in which capacity he served until 2006.
